Facebook Pages with more then 100 fans will soon have more granular targeting options for updates.
Currently, all pages have the ability to target fans by location or language. Over the next few weeks, Facebook will roll out a set of new targeting options that, according to TechCrunch, include the following:
- Interested In
- Relationship Status
Targeted Updates Only Impact The News Feed
It’s important to understand that these targeting options only affect post visibility in the newsfeed. All targeted content will still appear on your Facebook Page since that’s the only way to allow friends to see the targeted content their friends have liked, commented on, or shared.
Better Targeting Means More Engagement
This new targeting feature will allow marketers to publish more relevant content, which should lead to higher rates of engagement for each update. For example, the National Wildlife Federation will be able to target an update about great places to hike in the North East by selecting location and interest criteria. This will increase the rate of engagement on that update due to its higher relevance.
