Facebook launches partnership with National Suicide Prevention Lifeline

Facebook and the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline have formed a partnership to help identify suicidal or otherwise violent messages, and offer instant support to someone feeling depressed or suicidal.

Friends can report suicidal content

If someone is posting unsettling photos or writing status updates about killing himself or herself, friends can click on a “report suicidal content” link and complete the following form:

Users can chat with a crisis counselor

Facebook is also allowing users to conduct a private chat with a crisis representative from the Suicide Prevention Lifeline (they can also call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255).

This service will be available to people who use Facebook in the United States and Canada.
